Police review security of religious sites after Tarn Taran church vandalism : The Tribune India

A day after a church was vandalized in Tarn Taran district, senior police officials from Jalandhar and Kapurthala visited various religious institutions to examine security arrangements at religious sites.

ADGP Anita Punj and Commissioner of Police Gursharan Singh Sandhu visited various churches, temples, mosques and gurdwaras falling in urban areas. They met with the Apostolic Administrator of Jalandhar Diocese, Bishop Agnelo Gracias, and assured them of all the security measures taken to ensure community harmony. A team led by DIG Jalandhar Range S Bhoopathi, along with SSP (Rural) Kapurthala Navneet Singh Bains visited Open Door Church in Khojewala.

Following the vandalism of the church, members of the Kapurthala Christian community also met with DC, Kapurthala, and delivered a letter of formal notice. On Friday, DIG, Jalandhar Range, and SSP, Kapurthala visited several religious sites to review security arrangements. The team also visited Manimahesh Temple, State Gurdwara, Kapurthala and Gurdwara in Khojewal today.

Navneet Singh Bains, SSP, Kapurthala, said: “The review of these religious sites is being conducted as directed by the Punjab DGP. We reviewed a church, a temple and some gurdwaras today. The security features at all these sites proved to be up to scratch. An audit of personnel and security measures such as CCTV cameras was also carried out at the sites.

Special nakas have also been set up in Kapurthala. Jalandhar Rural Police also carried out checks and reviewed security at various religious venues today. SSP Swarandeep Singh said security arrangements at religious places under the Lambra thana were reviewed today. During the visit, a team of rural police officers visited Gurdwara Baba Khushal Singh, Lambra and the Church of Glory and Wisdom, Tajpur. —TNS

Install cameras, advises Nawanshahr SSP

Nawanshahr: On Friday, SSP Bhagirath Meena urged the management of religious places to ensure that there are cameras fixed outside each shrine and that the police are notified in case of suspicious activity. The notice follows an incident of vandalism in Taran Tarn district.
