Nokia and Orange France deploy a passive optical LAN solution at 20 sites

Nokia is deploying a passive optical LAN (POL) solution for Orange at 20 sites in France, including Orange’s new headquarters, Bridge, in Issy-les-Moulineaux near Paris.

Nokia says the POL solution replaces the existing copper LAN, connecting more than 5,000 endpoints, including Wi-Fi and wired terminals.

According to Noki, its optical LAN enables Orange to deliver “superior user experiences” and offers a low-power solution for building and campus connectivity.

“The fiber-based networking solution provides long-term value and can be easily and inexpensively upgraded to increase speed and capacity.”

Philippe Gacougnolle, Director of Orange France of the internal network domain said: “Switching to POL for our intra-office connectivity can save significant energy costs and reduce emissions, which is essential to help Orange meet its ambitious environmental objectives”

Stéphane Azoulay, Orange France account manager at Nokia said, “The move from traditional LAN technology to POL technology means a more compact solution, with less power consumption and much better performance proving the best possible user experience.

“We are proud to have been selected by Orange for this important project.
