Netflix and Disney ask to expand blacklist of pirate sites in Australia

Netflix and Disney are seeking to pursue the expansion of a blocklist of pirate sites in Australia through the Federal Court.

Various studios including Netflix and Disney are continue their push against piracy sites in Australia. The various media companies are asking the Federal Court of Australia for a new court order that would force ISPs to block dozens more websites offering free access to content.

Blocking injunctions have become increasingly common in Australia as copyright holders continue to pressure ISPs to block access to pirate sites. Hundreds of sites have already been blocked, including The Pirate Bay, YTS, RARBG, Fmovies and Flixtor.

Last week (8/24) Netflix, Village Roadshow and several other studios filed a new site blocking request, their second blocking request of the year. The case lists all major Australian ISPs as defendants, but the domains they target have not yet been released for the public to see.

Reports on the blocking request indicate that copyright holders have identified 52 new pirate sites in their new push. The sites are probably a mix of torrents, streaming and linking portals. In addition to the new order, Disney and Netlfix are actively expanding existing blockages, with the Federal Court granting an extension of the injunction from earlier this year.

A full list of domain names added in the two recent blockages is listed below.
