Celebrate Vermont Days; free admission to parks and historic sites | Local News

MONTPELIER — Celebrate the arrival of summer at Vermont Days, an annual event designed to connect Vermonters and visitors to the state’s history and outdoor activities.

Vermont Days will take place on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12. The weekend celebration includes free admission to Vermont State Parks and Vermont State Historic Sites, a free fishing day on June 11, several family events and special bus service. between Rutland and Bomoseen State Park.

“Vermont Days is a great opportunity for people to enjoy the outdoors by visiting a state park, learning about Vermont history where it happened at a state historic site, or trying to fish for the first time during free fishing day,” the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing said. Commissioner Heather Pelham. “We encourage visitors and residents to take advantage of free entry to these wonderful destinations.”

In addition to free admission to state parks and state historic sites, several special events will be taking place across the state:

June 11 and 12: Free bus from Rutland and Castleton to Bomoseen State Park, with several stops, from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Find times and more information on this special service at www.vermontdays.com.

June 11: Grand Isle Family Fishing Festival at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Designed for young anglers and families, this free event offers basic fishing lessons, free fishing gear to borrow, and the chance for kids to catch big trout in the hatchery pond.

June 12: Green Mountain Brass Band Waterbury Center State Park at Waterbury State Park, 2-4 p.m. tunes, pop jazz, rock and of course marches. The concert is free, as well as free entry to the park.

June 12: Justin Smith Morrill Historic Site Open House and Puppet Show. Located at 214 Justin Morrill Highway, Strafford, 2-4 p.m. Visit Vermont’s first National Historic Site this summer. Bring your family or friends and enjoy free ice cream, take a guided tour of Justin Morrill’s neo-Gothic home, stroll through the Victorian gardens and stay for an organized ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ puppet show by No Strings Marionette Co. at 2:30 pm Sponsored by Friends of Morrill Property.
