Bolton: 20 venues ‘listed for elimination’ by council

Land, properties and car parks in Bolton could be sold by the council to raise millions of pounds.

The 20 areas of land have been recommended for disposal by Bolton Council to help raise up to £4million to invest in improving neighborhoods in the borough.

How each site is disposed of will depend on its individual situation, according to Cabinet Member for Regeneration Cllr Adele Warren.

She said: “They are listed for disposal but it depends on a case by case basis and it could be done through different means.

“There are garden leases that we have looked at, some may go up for auction.”

She added: “You may recall that £16million was spent on the District Center regeneration scheme, of which £12million came from the Council’s loan scheme, which can help raise the additional £4 million.”

The district center scheme will be used to fund improvements in areas like Wesoughton, Horwich and Farnworth.

Cllr Warren said: “For years Bolton Council has been one of the largest land banks in Bolton so if there is any land that has not been used it makes sense to list it for surrender.”

The sites include land north of Glynne Street in Farnworth, east of Baker Street in Kearsley, Carter Street also in Kearsley, north of Brentwood Drive in Farnworth, north of Albion Street in Great Lever, back of Moss Bank Way at Astley Bridge, on Buckley Lane in Farnworth and at Design Street in Hulton.

Cllr Warren says the new ownership will not change the way the sites are used and any land designated as green space will remain so.

The council will also sell the former site of the Little Lever Library, Overdale Bungalow at Overdale Cremetorium in Heaton, Bridge House on Pool Street, land at the back of Longsight Lane in Harwood and land next to Brae Crest on Victoria Road .

Blackrod House on Blackhorse Street, Queen Street West Car Park in Halliwell, Bryan Hey Farm in Smithills, land behind Ormrod Street in Farnworth and St Helena Car Park and King Street NCP Car Park NCP on Deansgate.
